Management Story Time- Hare and the Tortoise

The story of Hare and the Rabbit

For years, we've been listening to the same old story of tortoise beating the rabbit in running race owing to the overconfidence of the  hare or the 'slow and steady winning the race' etiquette.

Have you ever analysed this story from a management point of view?

1. Lack of drive - Think about it, anybody who wants to compete will never give room for relaxation or lethargy. The driving forces would be
a.Passion
b.Self motivation
c.Inner drive
d.Desire to win
e.Goal setting

You can rearrange in whatever fashion you would like the options to be!

The only logical explanation for the Hare sleeping in the course of the race would be, lack of drive on its part and not undermining the opponent's strength. The hare could have reached the goal post in no time if it had wanted to, and then could have rested.

2. True Leadership backed up by iron will: A leader will never give up and possess determination unparalleled.  Tortoise symbolises victory gained through uncompromising focus and duty conscience.  (That is why some people consider it as a lucky charm though some consider its presence to bring bad luck).

Tortoise was
a. Tough
b.Strong in mind
c.Responsible
d.Goal oriented
e.Focussed
f.Humble
g. Represented its team like a true leader

Humility is another important quality that needs to be possessed by people ,especially in top level management. You need to know "where you stand and what you are today as you don't know where you will be and what will be your position tomorrow!"

The wisdom these stories carry are unfathomable and we try to extract  only what we want to and conveniently overlook the essence.
